1. Properties of BMC plastic
Bulk prepreg made of chopped glass fiber mixed with unsaturated polyester slurry. It is suitable for molding by molding, transfer molding, injection molding and other processes. The obtained products have good mechanical properties, high dimensional stability, good surface finish, water resistance, oil resistance, corrosion resistance, heat resistance, and electrical properties. 2. Characteristics of BMC plastics
(1) General performance
The proportion of BMC plastic is relatively large, between 1.3 and 2.1; the product has a bright appearance, good hand feel, and a hard and heavy feeling; heating with fire will produce a lot of oil smoke and styrene odor; some varieties of BMC molding compounds ( BMC) is not flammable, but some varieties are extremely flammable, leaving inorganic substances after burning.
(2) Dimensional stability
The linear expansion coefficient of BMC plastic is smaller than that of general thermoplastics, which makes BMC molding compound have high dimensional stability and dimensional accuracy. Temperature has little effect on the dimensional stability of BMC molding compound (BMC), but the influence of humidity is more serious. BMC molding compound will expand after absorbing moisture. The linear expansion coefficient of BMC molding compound (BMC) is very close to that of steel and aluminum, so it can be compounded with it.
(3) Mechanical strength
The tensile, bending, impact strength and other properties of BMC plastics are higher than those of thermoplastics, and the creep resistance is also better than that of thermoplastics.
(4) Water and solvent resistance
BMC plastics have good corrosion resistance to water, ethanol, aliphatic hydrocarbons, grease, and oil, but are not resistant to ketones, chlorohydrocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbons, acids and bases. BMC molding compound (BMC) has low water absorption, and the insulation performance is still good after soaking for one day.
(5) Heat resistance
The heat resistance of BMC plastic is better than that of general engineering plastics, and the heat distortion temperature HDT is 200-280 ℃, which can be used at a temperature of 130 ℃ for a long time.
(6) Aging resistance
The aging resistance of BMC plastic is very good. It can be used indoors for 15-20 years, and its strength retention rate is above 60% after 10 years of outdoor exposure.
(7) Electrical properties
The arc resistance of BMC plastic is the most outstanding, which can reach about 190 seconds.
(8) Low odor properties
The styrene cross-linking agent used in BMC plastics will still have 0.1% residue after curing, and it will give off an odor when heated. Therefore, the BMC molding compound (BMC) used for food utensils (such as microwave tableware) should choose UP resin with no residual styrene monomer.
