The Standardization System of SMC Mold
The temperature for designing molds is usually between 140℃ and 160℃. When designing the temperature system for molds, it is important to ensure that the temperature of the entire surface of the mold is consistent. Uniform temperature can reduce deformation, increase dimensional stability and surface uniformity of the product. Evaluating manufacturability mainly includes estimating the cost of mold design and manufacturing, evaluating the assembly of molds, evaluating the manufacturability of mold components, and evaluating the structure and forming performance of molds. The standardization of SMC molds mainly includes the development and implementation of technical standards, the production and application of standard parts, and the promotion and implementation of relevant standards.
The standardization system of SMC mould includes four categories of standards: basic standards, process quality standards, component standards, and technical standards related to production. They can also be divided into ten categories according to their main classifications, including stamping SMC mold standards, die casting SMC mold standards, forging SMC mold standards, cold extrusion SMC mold standards, rubber SMC mold standards, glass product SMC mold standards, and automotive stamping die standards. By using standard parts according to the SMC mold standard, not only can the quality of the mold be improved, but also the production cost of the mold can be reduced and the production cycle greatly shortened.
The Advantages of Compression Molding SMC Mold Oil Heating System
Compression SMC injection molding molds usually use hydraulic presses, with the upper and lower parts of the molds fixed on the press. The mold includes a cavity and a core, which is the same as the injection mold. The molding material is placed on the open mold, and then the press is closed. The set temperature and pressure generated by the press make the raw material melt into the mold cavity. The molding materials for this type of mold are usually SMC, BMC, and GMT, so we often call this type of mold SMC mold, BMC mold, GMT mold, etc.
The mold heating system is currently divided into electric heating and oil heating systems. With increasing requirements for SMC moulds in the market, the advantages of the oil heating system are gradually becoming apparent. The oil heating system, also known as an oil circulation temperature control unit, has the advantages of uniform and stable temperature, and can control the mold surface temperature within ±1℃. Now, SMC mold temperature is automatically controlled by oil temperature machine computer chips with an accuracy of ±1℃. The oil temperature machine uses a one-time forming pipeline with a small tube resistance, and the equipment has automatic exhaust and oil blowing back functions. When changing molds, the internal heat-conducting oil of the mold can be automatically blown back to the oil temperature machine to reduce oil waste and time. The connection between the mold oil passages and the oil temperature machine uses a self-closing joint, which is convenient to connect and disconnect and can be completed in a few tens of seconds. If traditional heating elements are used, the temperature may be too low at some points, causing the material to not fully mature, resulting in a partially dark and non-glossy surface of the product. Because electric heating rods are prone to burning out and not easy to detect after burnout, if the surface temperature of the mold is not regularly tested, it may cause a large amount of waste products.
The oil heating system for SMC mold in compression molding, as a more stable heating method, is widely used in the molding of fiberglass, carbon fiber, aramid fiber-reinforced composite materials, and RTM liquid molding.
