1. The development process of SMC insulator
Insulator is a kind of special insulation control that has high requirements for electrical performance, structural strength and light weight, and plays an important part in overhead transmission lines. According to the difference of raw materials, insulators can be divided into glass insulators, ceramic insulators, composite insulators and so on. From the early days, porcelain insulators have been used in power lines, but with the development of technology, porcelain insulators are gradually being replaced by composite polymer insulators.
SMC material is an ideal processing material with excellent electrical insulation, out-bound strength, specific modulus and die flexibility, so it is used in various electrical equipment production, including the insulator. The production of SMC insulator requires SMC mold for insulator and supporting facilities such as presses. SMC insulator production has specific procedures. It is necessary to control the mold entry form the beginning of production. The press is equipped with a material guide mechanism and the mold needs to be cooled in time during the mould pressing stage.
2. The advantages of SMC insulator
(1) Excellent hydrophobicity
Due to its excellent pollution-resistant property and hydrophobicity, SMC insulator can provide good insulation without refueling in humid, dense fog, heavy rain and polluted climates, therefore, the maintenance costs are reduced.
(2) Light weight
Compared with porcelain insulator, SMC insulator is lighter in weight but higher in strength. It is 90% lighter than porcelain insulator.
(3) Good compact design
Saving a lot of space at a very low cost.
(4) Beautiful design
SMC insulator posesses good design and appearance.
(5) Short processing time
Compared with porcelain insulator, there is a shorter manufacturing time of SMC insulator.
(6) Design flexibility
There is great flexibility of the design of the insulator, which makes it possible to adapt to the change of creepage distance.
